Our impact
By choosing Sépaq, you do much more than just enjoy the great outdoors: you actively contribute to initiatives in the areas of land conservation, sustainable development and access to nature.
Together, we look after our world.
Thank you for choosing us
Discover our collaboration with the writer and poet David Goudreault, who delivers both a vibrant tribute to our territories and a plea in favour of our link to nature, with original music by composer Pilou (video in French only):
Almost 80% of the funding for our network of national parks, wildlife reserves, and tourist establishments comes from the revenue generated by visitors.
All our profits are reinvested in the conservation, sustainable management, and development of our territories.
Choosing us means taking care of:
46 destinations | 53 000 km2 of territory | $2.6 billion in built heritage
Every visit counts
For 40 years, your mountain hikes, camping memories, and even fishing stories have enabled us to carry out important conservation and sustainable development initiatives and improve people's health by facilitating their connection to nature.
Choose to protect our waterways
While fishing
Invasive aquatic species (IAS) represent the second greatest threat to biodiversity. With the aim of protecting our waterways, Sépaq encourages responsible fishing. To facilitate the adoption of these new practices, washing stations for personal watercraft have been made available to anglers at Réserve faunique La Vérendrye and Réserve faunique Ashuapmushuan. With a significant proportion of Quebec waterways located in Sépaq territories, together we can have a real impact on this biodiversity issue. (Video in French only)
Choose to better manage waste
While camping and during cabin stays
Sépaq establishments have to manage more than 2,400 tons of waste annually. Household waste as well as recyclable and organic materials represent an everyday logistical challenge. Across our territories, no fewer than 135 composters have been installed recently... kept well away from the surrounding wildlife!
Choose to respect the natural world that surrounds us
While hiking
Going on a hike with the family or climbing the peaks is always a great way to connect with nature. What if we showed the natural world the respect it deserves, in return for the well-being it gives us? It's very simple: by adopting small gestures that make all the difference, such as staying on marked trails, picking up after ourselves (and using our composters!), and keeping our distance from the wildlife we encounter along the way!
Choosing to contribute to the electrification of transportation
While on the move
A number of the territories managed by Sépaq are located in remote areas, but they are no less accessible for visitors with electric cars. Last year, nearly 200 charging stations for electric vehicles were installed across the network. At the same time, Sépaq is continuing its efforts to reduce the GHG emissions of its vehicle fleet: in 2019-2020, Sépaq ranked fourth among government ministries and organizations with the largest fleets of light vehicles.
Choosing to encourage the local economy
When leasing or renting equipment
Sépaq has a Responsible Procurement Policy which aims to increase the share of responsible procurement, to promote local purchasing, and to provide procurement officers with ecological, social, and energy transition criteria to be taken into account when purchasing, leasing, or renting certain goods and services. Indicators are used to monitor and measure Sépaq's progress in terms of responsible procurement.
Choosing to reduce light pollution
During an overnight stay in nature
A number of national parks are following in the footsteps of Parc national du Mont-Mégantic and Parc national du Mont-Tremblant in the fight against light pollution. Its impact on the preservation of the fragile balance of ecosystems, both flora and fauna, is widely documented and every little gesture counts. While Sépaq is taking steps to reduce light pollution from its buildings, you can also make a difference at home by changing a simple outdoor light bulb!
The Sépaq of Tomorrow
Letter from the President and CEO, Martin Soucy
"As we blow out our 40 candles, the time has come to look to the future. What kind of Sépaq do we want for tomorrow? For me, the answer is clear: a modern organization that actively contributes to sustainable tourism so that future generations can also enjoy our magnificent territories and, in turn, look after them."
